Projects

Education:
We will be bringing books of various reading levels to multiple village schools in areas surrounding Chennai. After having an initial visit at each of the schools we will be choosing lessons from the lesson plans that we have developed, as well as lesson plans provided by Mindtrekkers and past cohort members, to teach to the children. The lessons that we have developed primarily cover health/sanitation, physics, and technology.

Health:
Prior to our travel in India, we contacted the hospital affiliated with KVCET (the college where we will be staying) and asked them what types of medical supplies their facility could use. We then contacted MedWish (an organization that re-purposes medical equipment), which was able to donate a large array of the desired medical equipment. We also received medical supplies from Portage Health. While in India, we will be donating these supplies, ranging from gauze to laproscopic instruments, to the aforementioned hospital. Then we will tour the hospital and associated medical college to assess other needs that future cohorts may be able to address there.

Video Documentation:
Throughout our time in India, we will be collecting video and audio footage of life in India. Through this footage, we hope to gain a better understanding of Indian culture and ways that we may be able to better serve the needs of the villages where we will be working. We may also use the footage to create a promotional video for the Pavlis Institute that will aid us in receiving more funding that we can put toward our future projects in India.
